Choose a Career You Love

Meet Lily, a creative marketing professional, who began her job search in April 2020 shortly after being furloughed. During her journey to find a new job, she also found a turning point in her job search process. Read her story below to learn more. . . . "Well, 2020 was not the best year to decide that I wanted to seek a new career path. With the world turned upside down, it definitely made the job search more difficult than it previously was; and I know it is never easy. I hadn't interviewed for a job in almost five years, so the thought was very intimidating. I applied for jobs on every site that you can think of – LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed, etc. At one point I was applying for about 10 jobs a day. The turning point for me was when I realized I didn't just want any job... but I wanted THE JOB. The job that you get excited about, that allows you to grow and prosper. The job that would allow me to live by this quote, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." I started to do more research on smaller companies with reputations of treating their employees well. I reached out to my network and began asking around to see if anyone knew of any available positions. I just so happened to cross paths with the right individual that put my name in the running for THE JOB that I truly wanted and in January 2021, I started my new job with a great company! The best piece of advice that I would give to current job seekers is to always remain positive! I know this is easier said than done but I cannot stress it enough. No matter how stressful the job search can be, always keep in the back of your mind that the right position is out there for you. There will be rejections, tough interviews, stress, and in my case, anyways, tears but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I relied heavily on my support system to get me through the process and they always kept me positive. That positive energy will show in your interviews and will make you memorable to the people you're interviewing with. Stay positive, utilize your network, remain true to yourself, and aim high!" - Lily . . . Special thanks to Lily for allowing me to share her story.
